About Softside Rails and Cheri Stout
A benefit of being laid off after twenty four years in the travel industry
was the ability to spend time with my late grandmother when she required hospice
care. Close to her ninetieth birthday, her frailty was difficult to accept. But, I was
really disturbed when the cold, hard rails of the hospital bed caused bruising when she
fell asleep against them, exaggerating that frailty.
A thorough search on the internet failed to find any solution. So I decided to create a soft padded cover myself.
I worked for a year perfecting the design using sewing skills learned from my grandmother and mother.
I was fifteen when I lost my mother to cancer and inherited her sewing machine, and now, how satisfying it
is to be using these skills to honor these special women in my life.
Although it was too late to benefit my grandmother, I am hoping many others will enjoy the comfort of my creation.
